Resort Pro Etiquette
In resort yoga classes, it’s essential to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable and valued. As a Resort Pro, you can do this by finding space for each participant, showing kindness and respect to everyone, and thanking them for attending. Remember, everyone is welcome in your class, regardless of their age, ability level, or background, so strive to make each person feel seen and appreciated. By doing so, you can create a positive and supportive community that encourages growth, learning, and self-care.
Take advantage of this opportunity to connect with the hotel guests as you teach your classes, as many of them may return day after day. Building a bond between teacher and guest can be facilitated by remembering their names. It may seem simple, but this small gesture can go a long way in fostering a sense of connection and creating a welcoming and personalized experience for each individual. Embrace the chance to engage with the guests, listen to their needs, and create a supportive and inclusive community within the resort.
In our classes, the focus is on the guests, not the teachers. It’s important to maintain a humble approach, demonstrating yoga poses only when necessary and avoiding the temptation to show off your newest moves. Remember, the primary goal is to create a supportive and inclusive environment where guests can learn and grow in their practice. By keeping the spotlight on them, we can foster a positive and enriching experience for everyone involved.
Dress appropriately for the yoga classes you’ll be teaching at the resort. This typically means wearing comfortable, flexible clothing that allows for easy movement and is suitable for a yoga practice. It’s important to dress professionally and modestly, as you’ll be representing both Resort Pro International and the resort at which you are staying. Avoid wearing your swimsuit, bikini, revealing or provocative clothing, and aim for a neat and put-together appearance that inspires confidence in your students.
In the resort setting, it’s important to “read the room” and gauge the level of experience of your class attendees. Many of them may be new to yoga or have very little experience, so it’s important to teach the class at a pace and level that is appropriate for them. However, it’s also important to recognize that some participants may welcome a challenge and be interested in pushing themselves further. Keep this in mind when planning and leading your classes, and be ready to make adjustments based on the needs and desires of your students.
Punctuality is of utmost importance as a representative of the hotel. Resort Pro teachers are required to be present at least 15 minutes before class starts. It is your responsibility to start and end the classes at the pre-determined times. Please note that missing a class or arriving late can result in the cancellation of your trip. By being prompt, you ensure a smooth and consistent experience for both yourself and the resort guests, fostering a sense of professionalism and reliability.
As a guest and yoga teacher at the resort, it is important to leave the class space clean and tidy after use. Return all props and equipment to their designated storage areas and make sure the floor is free of any debris or sweat. By doing so, you will show your appreciation to the full-time resort staff and fellow guests who use the space after you.
